Impact Gathering #7: Thomas Lommée
LUCA School of Arts & iDROPS
The Impact Gatherings are a Ghent particle accelerator for all those who want things to move forward, better and different. For professors and professionals, government or private, students and never-graduates. Before noon you will have a head full of new ways to innovate. By the speakers on stage, but equally by the people in the room. Because with the coffee, you will be given an extensive phone book of other people just like you: with plans and ideas for social change, looking to roll up their sleeves. At this seventh edition, Thomas Lommée is speaker on duty.
Thomas Lommée is the founder of OpenStructures, an exploration of open modular design where everyone designs for everyone else based on a single shared grid. He previously founded Intrastructures, "a pragmatic utopian design studio" that applies product, service and system design as a tool for change. Lommée taught at numerous design institutions across Europe, taught at the ENSCI - École nationale supérieure de création industrielle - in Paris and currently heads the Morning Studio, one of the eight undergraduate departments at Design Academy Eindhoven.
Following the lecture, Lommée will also give an "introduction to open modular design" workshop. Workshop participants will be introduced to the OpenStructures (OS) design methodology by puzzling with existing OS components while coming up with their own OS designs.
22 March at 9:00 (lecture) in THE BOMA!
