The Furious Rodrigo Batista (Side A) + The B-Side
Rodrigo Batista
Furious he is, Rodrigo Batista. In this two-part solo full of explicit images, sloganesque language and bloody porn, the Brazilian theatre-maker throws his own body into the fray against all that is capitalist. Political desperation is the starting point for the work of Rodrigo Batista who ran an esteemed theatre company in São Paolo for many years before moving to the Netherlands. In his work, he aims his arrows at neoliberal impunity, using propaganda as an indictment, and provocation and explicitness as aesthetic means.
In (SIDE A), Rodrigo's raging alter ego performs a dance solo to a soundtrack of Brazilian pop songs. He explores the grotesque and the ecstatic, making tangible an emphatically sexual and aggressive energy. The B-SIDE is an intense political body search in which he unmasks decolonization as a territorial struggle and exposes pornography and necropolitics as excesses of a tearing capitalism.
