A journey into space
Robbert&Frank Frank&Robbert / CAMPO
Space is like our black canvas on which we project our deepest fears and our greatest dreams … Our journey into space is also a voyage into the strange, absurd universe of our minds. How do we act, how do we think , what do we look like and what has all of this to do with some wannabe LA cool boy and a gangster with psoriasis…?
Robbert&Frank Frank&Robbert graduated in 2012 with the highest distinction in Multimedia Design at the Ghent art school KASK.
In their first full grown theatre piece, A Journey into Space, they lay out a colourful world of graphics and drawings on the theatre floor. Sharing the scene with a garden gnome, both performers bring a surprising creation full of witty visual poetry.
As kids of the digital revolution R&F love to mix video recordings, performance and visual arts to create new meanings and shapes. In A Journey into Space they offer the public a peek in their absurd universe.
Moving freely on top of a colourful projection and creating different layers of consciousness, they write a kind of virtual Creation narrative.
Each new scene incorporates new transformations, codes of conduct and playful acting.
Robbert&Frank Frank&Robbert are young artists full of spirits and ambition.
Unlike their many visual installations and artwork, A Journey into Space is their first, professional attempt to connect to a live public. The result is playful and touching at the same time.
Far away from cynicism and blasé been there done that ‘s, they explore the world and boldly go where no man has gone before.
After well received performance series during Theater aan Zee 2012 in Ostend the two artists start touring in the spring of 2013.
This production is the first of more to come under CAMPO production wings.
In 2008 Robbert&Frank were laureates in the category ‘Performance’ in the Kunstbende, a Flemish art competion for young people. Their short movie ‘What about American History,’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlNw-U9dCbA) was selected for the Canvas Collection 2012 in the Brussels’ Bozar.
A Journey into Space won the Belgian Horlait Dapsens prize and their visual work is selected for the European StartPoint Prize for emerging artists (exposition in DOX, Prague Sept 7-Oct 8 2012).
